The last of the dahlias have been tucked in

Even though we had some freezing nights and a few snowfalls already, the last of the dahlias were tucked in just this past week. There was no damage from the last few that were outside, altho a couple that were in pots (not in the ground) were a little squishy. I hope they make it.

Most of the dahlias were dug several weeks ago, labeled and marked, placed in buckets, and then covered with peat moss. These were in the garage, apparently undamaged, but now have been moved to the basement.

Our early winter cut the gardening season short... but we've had some warmer days which were used to take down the rest of the garden.

More Dahlias

This next group of dahlias were from a package called "Purple Rain Mix".... and then our extra big, dinner plate yellows were super stars.

Dark Purple

All Dark Pink Cactus

Purple White Cactus

Big Purple in yellows...

Pink Yellow also Yellow Lav

Rose and White

Our next bed had some amazing blooms. Just three Kelvin Floodlight plants flooded us with dinner plate sized, fluffy, yellow blooms. These plants were vigorous and tall - long stems were perfect for our bouquets.

Big Yellow Kelvin Floodlight - a real winner!

Red Flame - could be Akita

Pink Lucky Number did not get off to a great start. Let's hope for lots of tubers!

We had one Big Dark Purple sneak into the Big Yellow planting.. but it was a stunner so that's OK.

This Orange and Yellow was planted late also..next to the sunflowers.

We had a terrific blooming year!

Bouquets

We had some stunning bouquets this year... tons of sunflowers and dahlias mixed with zinnia. And our secret ingredient? In addition to white and pink cosmos....cinnamon basil as filler. Not only did it look lovely with its purple hues... but it smells like heaven.

Our big yellow dahlias and floral quality sunflowers were the center of this bouquet.

Pumpkins made adorable vases for these collections of blooms....

 Dahlias, snaps, and sunflowers.

Pumpkins and sunflowers go beautifully together.

Perfect for fall!

These cactus dahlias really spice things up!

Snaps, suns, dahlias, and cosmos....and cinnamon basil.

Sometime purples are all you really need....

Glads, zinnias, tons of purple dahlias....and dark purple basil.

Red blooms always jazz things up.....

Red "State Fair" zinnias and pineapple sage make this bouquet pop..and the pineapple sage lends a tropic scent. Mini sunflowers are just the right size.

Thanks to all our customers for a terrific season!

Gettin' Growin'!

Even tho we've had a few chilly nights things are really starting to pop around here!  Planting is going all out for the growing season.

Seeds are direct sown and then we put up a row cover to keep them safe from birds and frost.

We are having a rain today which is just what growers love....followed by several days of sunshine of course.
