Totally tubular.... dahlia tubers that is!

We've been working hard to get all of our dahlias tubers awakened for spring!  Did you know that dahlia tubers sleep all winter in a nice warm bed of peat moss....and sometimes sprout before they are even planted?
Sproutin' is happening here!

We take up and divide our tubers for the winter - they are too sensitive to hash weather and soggy ground to be left out in the cold. We store them in buckets of peat moss in our basement... then get them growing in containers.

Some of the dahlias can be divided again if we see sprouts. They are a little tough after the long winter but a sharp knife makes quick work of the task.

Happy growing!
